An Aqua, Pink, and Gold Baby Shower

Events and StationeryEmily NicolettiComment

This post is a bittersweet one! I had the privilege of helping to plan a baby shower for one of my dearest friends (many of you know Ashley), but I wasn't able to actually attend. Of course I was beyond bummed, but sweet Ash totally understood, and lucky for me, Ash's sister is the amazing Courtney Timms of Courtney Timms Photography, so the day was well-documented.

I was tasked with my favorite part of party-planning--planning the theme and the decor! Anyone who knows Ashley knows that she loves all things metallic gold, so I knew that had to be part of the plan! I also know her well enough to know that she loves all things aqua and pink, so the them part came together easily, especially since we knew we were showering her little baby GIRL! So we went with pink, aqua, and gold with bit of Kate Spade inspiration, and we were off!

In my opinion, the invitations for any party set the tone. They came together really easily since I knew I wanted a pretty script with my go-to serif font (Archer). Some pretty floral elements with some gold flourishes, and I was almost done. I had all kinds of crazy options for the background, but my sweet husband Josh looked over my shoulder and said, "Why don't you just make it that solid blue-ish color?" I tried it just to humor him, and that was that! I am so glad he encouraged me not to over-complicate the design. Plus, I think everyone was happy with the invitation design in the end, which is obviously the goal!

I hand-painted this canvas banner with JUST enough time for it to dry before dropping it off at Ashley's mom's house before we headed out of town. It turned out to be a hit and the "Baby Jessee" portion was promptly hung in the nursery after the shower, which made Auntie Em feel very honored :)

I'm a sucker for tissue paper pompoms and the like, so of course I also dropped off some of those in the "decorations supplies" I brought over pre-party, and then the other girls did a great job of arranging flowers, making beautiful food, and arranging decor right on the dot with the theme we had selected! I can't take credit for the following photos--they did a great job pulling it all together!!

I love the next few photos because they show just how loved and celebrated momma Ashley and sweet baby Ryan really are!

But wait, there's more! While I missed out on the shower, I didn't miss out on the best part... Miss Ryan is HERE and beautiful and bringing so much love into all of our lives--including Uncle Josh and Auntie Em!

So much love and many congratulations to Ash and Cory! We love all three of you!!

Babies and Besties

Sometimes, your friends get pregnant. And it's a little surreal, but very exciting. And then you finally see them with a baby bump, and it gets even more exciting. And you get to wander through Target and try not to buy every single precious baby thing you see for the shower.

But Diane is my sister. And not in the way that it's like, "We're BFFs and we're so close we're basically sisters." I truly love Diane as my sister, and I am so thankful for the wonderful, hilarious, and even tough times that we have shared.

Diane and I met when she was in high school and I was her Young Life leader. I remember liking her instantly. Through the years, I've gotten to live with her, go on adventures with her, and have her stand by me at my wedding. And now my sweet sister is all grown up... The high school sophomore girl I met on a bike ride through Bridgewater is now Mrs. Kalinchuk and mama to sweet Baby Kate. I could not be more proud or excited to become an aunt :)

Saturday was such a treat--hanging out in Harrisonburg with a few of my many college housemates (we lived in a big, old, dirty, beautiful house called Narnia, and this is only like half of us.) Getting to share a day with Narnians (and other Valley friends), showering Diane and Kate with love and gifts brought such joy to my spirit. We can't wait to meet you, Baby Kate!
